Acupressure is just like Acupuncture but without the
needles! Acupressure is an ancient science and healing art
used to restore and maintain health. Acupressure therapy
is based on the philosophy that all bodily functions are
determined by a flow of Qi (Chi) or Bio-energy. This
stream of energy flows along channeled pathways referred
to as meridians.
Meridians connect bio-electrical impulse centres
(nerves) to body organs and this maintain a healthy
balance of energy. If disturbed or restricted, the flow
becomes erratic, setting off a warning signal that
something is wrong, often in the form of pain.
Acupoints within the meridian system can be
stimulated to enhance the flow of Qi (Yang) and Blood
(Yin).
When a acupressure point is pressed, the body
releases endorphins, a neurochemical that relieves pain
and increases blood flow to a specific area. As a
result, the energy becomes regular, normal body function
is resumed, and the symptom is relieved.
What
Happens In A Typical Treatment?
The client lies on a massage table, fully
clothed minus obstructive jewellery and shoes.
The practitioner manipulates the 800+
acupressure points in the body using a combination of
prescribed techniques including grasping, pressing,
scrubbing, tapping and wiping. Although clients may
direct the practitioner to a particular discomfort in
the body requiring added attention, the practitioner
performs the full treatment on the entire body in
holistic fashion. Since the purpose of acupressure
is to release blockages in the body, it is not necessary
to apply excessive force in the treatment. As a result,
acupressure is a gentler approach to energetic healing
than massage therapy or Shiatsu. Acupressure is also
used as a maintenance treatment for balanced
overall health. Most acupressure treatments last one
hour. As the session progresses the
client may experience lightness, a floating
sensation, deep relaxation and even sleep.
*For Light Workers and Body Workers
For healers,
acupressure treatments fully open your channels/meridians to allow
Qi to flow more freely in your body. When this happens
you become a clearer conduit for energy transmission for
your clients. Acupressure provides an excellent tune up
for those of us who mainly think of others before
ourselves. It has been my observation that healers think
of themselves and their wellbeing last. As you know,
energy transfer is optimized when the vessel is clear.
Making sure you are clear helps your clients heal faster
and that is what it's all about. Isn't it?
As the points relate to nerves and their
functions, a blocked point can eventually cause illness
or disease in the associated organ. When a points is
stimulated, the blockage can be released and healing
energy can begin to once again flow to the distressed
organ or body area. The following is a sample list of

instinctively apply the right amount of pressure to
release blockages in a comfortable yet effective manner.
